Traffic Deaths in East Baton Rouge

Late last year, The Advocate published a story reporting that East Baton Rouge Parish led Louisiana in traffic deaths amid an “all-time high” in pedestrian accidents and fatalities.

At the Russell Law Firm, LLC, our Baton Rouge personal injury lawyers know that more drivers died on Louisiana roads last year than in any year in over a decade. According to the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission, 972 people died on Louisiana roads in traffic fatalities last year — a 17% increase from the previous year.

Unfortunately, closer to home, East Baton Rouge Parish led all parishes in the state with 104 fatalities across a total of 99 fatal crashes — 25 of those who were killed were pedestrians.

The state’s top traffic analyst and executive director of the Center for Analytics and Research in Transportation Safety at LSU, who conducted the research, said the aggressiveness of drivers was a major cause of the spike in traffic deaths. In addition, there was a disturbing increase last year — 32% — in cases of people driving while intoxicated/impaired.

If you or someone you love has been injured or lost their life in a traffic collision — as another vehicle motorist, motorcyclist, pedestrian, or bicyclist — caused by preventable circumstances, we can help you pursue the negligent driver for your full financial recovery.
